International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA)

The IPA is the oldest psychoanalytic organization in the world and is the only international psychoanalytic organization in the world.  The idea to form the IPA was agreed upon at the First Psychoanalytic Congress in Salzburg, Austria in 1908 and put in place at the Second Psychoanalytic Congress in Nuremburg, Germany in 1910. The first presidents of the IPA included Carl Jung, Karl Abraham, Sandor Ferenczi, Max Eitingon, and more recent presidents include Horacio Etchegoyen, Otto Kernberg and the current president, Virginia Ungar.

The IPA is comprised of three regional organizations, the European Psychoanalytical Federation (EPF), the Federation of Psychoanalytic Societies of Latin America (FEPAL) and the North American Psychoanalytic Confederation (NAPsaC), the latter of which the CFS is a member.

The CFS is proud to have been a component member of the IPA since 1993.
