FreeReaching Across the Chasm: Trauma, Racism, War, and Resilience
You are invited to a Recruitment Open House. We have been experiencing a steady stream of traumas related to our external world including the pandemic, acts of racism including the murder of George Floyd, and now the war in Ukraine. We will engage with the question: How are we listening to cumulative traumas and unconscious activation all at once. We will present and discuss vignettes taking place in our offices (physical and virtual) as we come out of the epidemic and step into the realities of witnessing the war in Ukraine.
We use the photo to illustrate the wrenching of ties – physical, psychological, socio-cultural, environmental – and our efforts to create connection in a time of war. Nancy Goodman will speak briefly of her experience with Ukrainian psychoanalytical therapists during the war. Our recruitment committee will share vignettes of “here and now” experiences of encroachment evoked in shared spaces with our patients.
WE INVITE YOU TO BRING STORIES FROM YOUR THERAPY PRACTICE OF the intersection of societal traumas and psychic realities of emotion and fantasy taking place for you and your patients.
We will present descriptions of the Psychoanalytic Training Program of the CFS-DC Program and explain the application process.
The CFS Programs have recently highlighted topics of trauma, racism, environmental collapse and we are continually bringing together the realities of “too much” and the inner world of unconscious fantasy.
